Universal Audio Apollo Duo, Apollo Quad released for Namm 2012. Two new Firewire 800 professional audio interfaces offering UAD powered plug-ins bring UA's analog design heritage to computer based recording.
Universal Audio's name is synonymous with high-end analogue microphone preamps, channel strips and professional signal processors designed for studio grade recording applications. More recently, UA have gained notoriety for their superb range of UAD DSP cards, which come bundled with an awesome array of software based plug-in effects. An announcement in California at the 2012 Namm show saw Universal Audio step squarely into the realm of computer based recording with a stunning range of new Firewire Audio Interfaces, Apollo Duo and Apollo Quad.
Apollo Duo and Apollo Quad feature the same, high-resolution audio interface and offer the same connectivity from an 18 x 24 Firewire 800 compatible sound card. The Apollo interface offers 8 analog inputs (including 4 pristine mic preamps) along with ADAT and SPDIF. The digital output stage mirrors that of the input (ADAT plus SPDIF), however 8 analog outs are also accompanied by dual headphone outs and a separate monitor out. Where Apollo Duo and Quad differ is with respect to the amount of power they offer, i.e. either Duo Core or Quad Core processing. Both interfaces come bundled with the Analog Classics Plug-in pack, which includes LA-2A Classic Audio Leveler, 1176LN Limiting Amplifier, and Pultec EQP-1A Program Equalizer.
Apollo Duo and Quad are also compatible with Intel's new Thunderbolt technology and the optional Thunderbolt card, which provides lower latency, reduced audio buffer size, improved performance and more UAD plug-in instances than versus FireWire. Note that initially Apollo will only support Mac OS, with Windows 7 support arriving by spring/summer as will the optional Thunderbolt card.
