Yamaha DXR, DXS range of powered speakers and pro-series MGP mixers released for Namm 2012. Yamaha have seriously upped the ante for pro-audio and PA at this years Namm with the announcement of an all new line-up of speaker cabinets and mixers. Prior to Namm, I was fortunate enough to receive an invite to Yamaha's headquarters in Tilbrook, Milton Keynes for a preview of their all new Pro-Audio line-up, which was to be launched in California. Yamaha being Yamaha, in short way too fair and above board, lined up their latest offering of active cabs against some huge industry names, which included Mackie, QSC and JBL.
A mix of live music and backing tracks was ran through DXR, DXS and compared against competing cabs within the same price range from the biggest names in Pro Audio. Not only did DXR and DXS perform way beyond their competitors in terms of quality and sound reproduction, they were way louder - no surprise here as they have significantly superior SPL ratings. A well keep secret is that Yamaha recently acquired the Nexo brand, which unsurprisingly used their incredible experience to develop these cabs. So confident are Yamaha of their performance they even come with a 7-year warranty.
MGP pro series mixers provide the ideal front end to DXR and DXS active speaker cab setups. MGP mixers come loaded with premium analogue class-A preamps, as featured on their N-Series desks, as well as REV-X and SPX dual FX processors. Apple certified connectivity for iPad and iPhone playback, a ducker/leveler hybrid channel plus 3-band Neve/Steinberg developed EQ give an indication of the quality of these mixers.
